What is a database backup?
A database backup is a complete, current, working and secure file containing all necessary database content to allow a company to quickly recover data in case the original file is lost due to an operational mistake, equipment failure, or nefarious means like a cyberattack or hacked access. Recovered data can either be partial (to replace missing fields), or complete (to replace a completely lost database).
Why do I need a database backup?
Databases are commonly used by companies to capture and report enterprise resource planning (ERP) information, potentially including HR, inventory, sales, manufacturing logs, pricing information, etc. This information is typically the lifeblood of a company and without adequate backups, it is at risk of being lost through innocent and not-so-innocent means. Companies that lose their are at high risk of failure.
I use standard backup software...do I need Verified Backups Inc.?
Yes. Standard backup software does not provide the same assurances for databases that Verified Backups Inc. provides, nor do they provide the verification of data being saved.
How do I know if my current backups are working and complete?
We recommend that companies attempt to restore their databases from their backup frequently to ensure files are current, complete and working. It is a good routine to practice testing backups. Few companies have the resources to perform daily tests, which is where partnering with Verified Backups makes good business sense since we test the success and usefulness of each database backup every day.
Why do databases require a special backup?
Since databases are always actively capturing, categorizing and sharing information, they are more difficult to back up. Databases are significantly different than office programs that create static data that is easier to back up.
Our company uses multiple databases. Can they all be backed up under one service contract?
Yes. Standard contracts cover up to 50 gigabytes of data from any number of databases.
I backup on an external drive. Am I safe?
Without analyzing your system, we have no way of knowing for sure. Sometimes file server backups happen when the database is in process of storing information and not ready to be backed up. We do know that our system provides a complete, current and working database that is fully tested 365 days a year, from which data can easily be restored.
How fast can backed up databases be restored?
Depending on the restoration need, most of our clients have been restored and are operational in an hour.
I back up my fileserver. Aren’t my databases then backed up, too?
Without analyzing your system, we have no way of knowing for sure, but we do know that our system provides a complete, current and working database that is fully tested 365 days a year, from which data can easily be restored.
Who’s behind Verified Backups Inc. and why should I trust the company?
Verified Backups Inc. was founded by Mr. Chris Marshall, a database expert whose experience spans three decades. He identified a flaw in standard backup programs and found nothing on the market that would properly address database backup needs. Verified Backups was born from this need and Mr. Marshall’s patented solution. The company is headquartered in St. Louis, MO and uses only domestically-based servers.
What type of databases does Verified Backup work with?
We currently focus on Microsoft SQL Server database and Microsoft Access backup and recovery operations, and are developing a similar approach for Oracle and other database platforms.
